Living at The South Pole is about a team. Winter of 2019 43 people spent the night. We worked together for all task from cleaning the station as daily tasks and working together preparing the runway and airstrip for the first planes of the year.
The last moments as the sun goes beyond the horizon at The South Pole was an experience to remember. The sun took a slow leisurely trip descending a small bit each day, with the light dwindling the winter crew prepared for the long night and winter. We had a Sun Down dinner party to celebrate this even that happens a single time each year at 90 degrees south. This is the moment that the long night of winter begins.
